Edgar Treviño, a 31-year-old Hispanic male from Mission, Texas, tragically passed away on January 3, 2022. His death was the result of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred at a residence on Tulipan Street, where Treviño was found in the kitchen/living room area. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting might have stemmed from a failed drug transaction involving crystal meth.
Hector Javier Gonzalez, a 31-year-old
man from Peñitas, was later identified as the suspect in Treviño's death. Gonzalez was found to have entered the residence with a black shotgun, looking for narcotics. During the incident, several people inside the home were ordered to step outside, and they managed to escape in a blue Ford Expedition. Gonzalez was arraigned at the Mission Municipal Court on January 6, 2022, and charged with murder. He eventually pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime.
In addition to Gonzalez, three other individuals—Jaqueline Duenes, Roberto Rafael Martinez, and Noe Ochoa—were charged with failing to report a felony. They were accused of not reporting the shooting to authorities despite having opportunities to do so. Their bonds were set at $10,000 each.
The case drew significant attention from local law enforcement and the community, as it was considered the first homicide in Hidalgo County for the year 2022. The investigation revealed that marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a small scale, and a small amount of a white powdery substance were found in the residence. The tragic death of Edgar Treviño highlighted the severe consequences of drug-related violence and the importance of community cooperation in reporting such incidents to prevent further loss of life.
