On a late summer morning in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of Lawrence Lamar Edwards III, a 54-year-old man, was abruptly ended by an act of violence. On August 28, 2023, Edwards was outside a market located at 37 Lewis Street when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. as he sat in his pickup truck.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the chilling moments of the attack.
A suspect was seen approaching Edwards' vehicle and firing several rounds inside, striking him. Despite being rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the wounds proved fatal, and Edwards succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene provided a detailed description of the shooter to the responding officers. This information proved crucial in the swift apprehension of a suspect. Within minutes of the shooting, police located a man matching the description, identified as 24-year-old Taishaun Jackson. Jackson was wearing distinctive clothing and carrying a grey backpack, consistent with witness accounts.
As law enforcement closed in, Jackson attempted to flee and was seen discarding an object over a fence. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a firearm from a tree inside the fenced-off space. Following his capture, Jackson was charged with criminal homicide for the death of Lawrence Edwards. During questioning by detectives, he reportedly claimed to be suffering from amnesia. He was subsequently held on a $100,000 bond.
