In the early evening of November 6, 2023, a dispute outside a 7-Eleven on Brick Church Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, turned fatal for 40-year-old Joshua B. Westmoreland. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, began as a physical altercation between Westmoreland and another man, later identified as 52-year-old Reginald Ewin.
The confrontation escalated dramatically when Ewin produced a pistol from his waistband and opened fire on Westmoreland.
Despite Westmoreland's attempt to flee, Ewin continued to shoot, striking him multiple times. After Westmoreland collapsed, Ewin was seen getting into a nearby dump truck and driving away southbound on Brick Church Pike. Shortly after the shooting, Ewin was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run on County Hospital Road.
Responding officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department found Westmoreland with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Authorities tracked the dump truck to a Thorntons gas station on Charlotte Pike, where they apprehended Ewin. At the time of his arrest, his clothing matched the description from the convenience store's surveillance video.
Reginald Ewin was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and possession of a handgun by a felon and is being held without bond. Prior to his death, Joshua Westmoreland had been on Nashville's 'Top 10 Most Wanted' list for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and for being a felon in possession of a weapon.
