In the late autumn of 2023, the life of 34-year-old Joshua White, a male from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in South Nashville. On the afternoon of November 14th, White drove his distinctive bright yellow Hyundai Veloster into the parking lot of a BP gas station on Old Hickory Boulevard at Eulala Drive. He emerged from his vehicle, which had front-end damage and a bullet hole in the windshield, and managed to tell a passerby that he had been shot before he collapsed. Emergency services transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The exact location of the shooting remains unclear to investigators, though surveillance footage and witness statements suggest that White may have been shot as he was leaving Benzing Road. In the wake of the shooting, Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit detectives began an intensive investigation, appealing to the public for any information regarding the incident or sightings of White's vehicle in the Old Hickory Boulevard and Bell Road area. White was a husband and a father of two children, and had previously volunteered with the Lascassas and Walter Hill Volunteer Fire Departments.
In the months following the shooting, a significant development occurred in the case. On February 1, 2024, Metro Nashville Police arrested 43-year-old Ada Kirby in connection with Joshua White's death. Recovered text messages allegedly implicated Kirby in the shooting, leading to her arrest. She has since been charged with criminal homicide and was jailed on a $270,000 bond. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting remains under investigation by detectives.
