In the early morning hours of May 12, 2021, a dispute that began inside a Nashville market tragically escalated, claiming the life of 24-year-old Jashaun Cane-Germane. The male victim was involved in an argument with another man that spilled out onto the sidewalk at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Fairfield Avenue.
The verbal confrontation turned violent, and Cane-Germane was shot.
He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, which occurred around 8 a.m., Homicide Unit detectives began their investigation, stating they were pursuing 'strong leads' to identify and capture the man responsible for Cane-Germane's death. The assailant was reported to have escaped the scene in a white vehicle. Law enforcement officials have not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
