On the evening of April 26, 2024, the body of 30-year-old Javier Palafox-Garcia, a Hispanic male, was discovered in the 700 block of Patricia Drive in Nashville, Tennessee. The investigation into his death revealed a grim sequence of events that had unfolded earlier that night. Palafox-Garcia had been shot multiple times and then run over by a vehicle, a brutal end to a confrontation rooted in a years-old grievance.
The responsible party did not remain at large for long.
Later that same evening, 19-year-old Jahir Hernandez presented himself to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and confessed to the killing. During questioning with homicide detectives, Hernandez claimed that his actions were in retaliation for a sexual assault he alleged Palafox-Garcia committed against him four years prior, an incident that had never been reported to law enforcement.
According to Hernandez's account, he had arranged to meet Palafox-Garcia at an apartment complex on Thompson Place with the premeditated intent to kill him. Shortly after Palafox-Garcia entered the passenger seat of Hernandez's car, Hernandez shot him multiple times. He then drove to Patricia Drive, where he removed Palafox-Garcia's body from the vehicle and left it in the street. In a final act of violence, Hernandez admitted to driving over Palafox-Garcia's body at a high rate of speed.
Following his confession, Jahir Hernandez was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. His bond was set at $350,000. Authorities have not indicated that they are searching for any other suspects in connection with the death of Javier Palafox-Garcia.
