On January 30, 2023, at approximately 11:53 p.m., Wilkes-Barre City Police responded to reports of gunfire near Coal Street and Logan Court. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Elijah "Lee" Rivers suffering from a gunshot wound on North Meade Street. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Rivers succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was ruled a homicide.
