On October 24, 2021, Jose Rafael Mena-Disla, a 24-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, was fatally shot at the Mofon Lounge in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when two groups from Scranton, who were known to each other and involved in an ongoing dispute, attended a function at the lounge. A physical altercation broke out, and during the fight, Mena-Disla produced a firearm in a threatening manner. Another male involved in the altercation responded by producing a handgun and shooting Mena-Disla. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department ruled Mena-Disla's death a homicide and launched an ongoing investigation. All participants in the altercation have been identified, and witnesses were encouraged to come forward with any information. Detectives Matt Stash and Jason Dudick were assigned to the case.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects publicly named in connection with Mena-Disla's death. The investigation remains active, and authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
