On July 21, 2023, at approximately 9:29 a.m., Philadelphia police responded to a shooting incident in the 6300 block of Vine Street in the Overbrook neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Michael Gillian suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m.
Initially, the investigation did not yield any suspects or a clear motive for the shooting.
However, as the inquiry progressed, detectives identified two individuals of interest: 27-year-old Tiania Johnson and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Jabreel Butler. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Johnson in connection with Gillian's murder, while Butler was wanted for a prior offense.
On August 2, 2023, police observed Johnson and Butler operating a Lincoln MKX with two children, aged 16 and 1, inside the vehicle. A pursuit ensued, culminating in a crash at the intersection of 57th and Oxford Streets near Overbrook High School. Surveillance footage captured the vehicle speeding and colliding with a wall. All occupants sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. Johnson was listed in critical condition, Butler in stable condition, and both children in stable condition.
Following the crash, authorities confirmed Johnson's involvement in Gillian's murder. She faces charges of murder and related offenses. Butler is charged with firearm violations, fleeing, and other related offenses. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gillian's death remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details and potential motives.
