On the afternoon of Thursday, March 17, 2016, Khyree Dyches, a 21-year-old Black male, was on his way to visit a friend in his North Philadelphia neighborhood. Just 17 days after his twenty-first birthday, his life was tragically cut short. As he walked, he was gunned down at the intersection of 31st and Cumberland Street. The incident occurred at approximately 1:37 p.m., when Philadelphia Police officers responded to a call and found Dyches lying on the pavement with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital for immediate medical attention, but his injuries were too severe, and he died later that afternoon. Known for his humor and light-hearted nature, Dyches grew up in the Strawberry Mansion area of Philadelphia. He was a devoted father to his two children, Aniyah and Kahymeen, and was described by his family as a protector who loved them deeply. He shared a close bond with his siblings and his cousin, Asia, with whom he had dreamed of starting a business.
The murder of Khyree Dyches remains unsolved, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. His family continues to seek justice and closure in the heartbreaking and unresolved case, remembering him as a funny, loving, and caring person who had a great deal of respect for everyone he met.
