In the heart of West Philadelphia, the life of 28-year-old Jerry Brooks was tragically cut short on a Thursday afternoon in April of 2016. Around noon on April 21st, a 911 call reporting a person with a gun sent Philadelphia Police officers to the 700 block of South 58th Street. There, they found Jerry Brooks, a resident of the 5500 block of Catharine Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center. Despite their efforts, Jerry Brooks was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. The initial investigation did not immediately reveal a motive for the shooting, and no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the incident. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation, offering a $20,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for this violent act.
Jerry, who was known to some by the nickname 'Boug,' was a Black male. Friends and family remembered him as a funny, loving sweetheart who was deeply devoted to his family and was a true friend to many. He was also a father.
In the years that have passed since his death, the case of Jerry Brooks's murder has remained open. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to list his case among its unsolved homicides. As of now, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of any suspects in connection with his death, leaving a painful void for his loved ones who still await answers and justice for his untimely demise.
