On January 7, 2020, Xiaoding Li, a 31-year-old man of Asian ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed while working at his family's corner grocery store, JD Hoyu Grocery, in South Philadelphia. Li was behind the counter when he was shot in the chest by an assailant. Despite being rushed to Jefferson Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
