On June 1, 2021, 22-year-old Dashean Lee, a Black male, was fatally shot while walking into a variety store on the 1200 block of East Chelten Avenue in Philadelphia's East Germantown section. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m., and Lee was shot multiple times in the back, head, and chest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after. Another man, who was inside the store, was injured by stray gunfire but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
