On the evening of Friday, November 8, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet on the 2700 block of Garnett Street in Philadelphia. When police officers arrived at the scene around 6:00 p.m., they found 43-year-old Rhisheen Wilkes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A Black male from the 3200 block of North Dover Street, Wilkes was a son, brother, father, and grandfather who was deeply loved by his family and friends.
Paramedics rushed Wilkes to Temple University Hospital in a
desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening. The loss was a devastating blow to his family, who remember him as a cherished member of their lives.
In the wake of the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Wilkes' death. To date, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. Detectives have not publicly identified any suspects in the murder.
