In the early morning hours of Friday, June 17, 2022, the life of 17-year-old Malik A. Bell Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short on a Philadelphia street. Just after 12:40 a.m., Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 2500 block of South 61st Street, where they discovered Bell lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m.
The investigation into
the shooting revealed a chilling sequence of events captured on surveillance footage. Police described the killing as 'execution-style.' The footage showed one suspect initially shooting at the tire of a parked pickup truck. A second individual then picked up the same gun and approached Bell as he was leaving a store with food. The suspect got within close range of Bell and fired multiple shots at his head.
Despite the existence of surveillance video, the case of Malik A. Bell Jr.'s murder remains unsolved. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate and has asked for the public's help in identifying the suspects involved in this brutal slaying. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to bring justice for the teenager whose life was taken so violently.
