On the night of December 16, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in West Philadelphia, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Shatara "Aniyah" Marell. The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of 62nd and Market Streets. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Marell unresponsive with gunshot wounds to her chest and back. She was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
