On February 24th, the young man from Drifting was shot and killed at a residence in Morris Township, a place where he was supposed to safely exchange his children with his estranged wife, Danielle Elizabeth Parks.
What initially was presented as a case of self-defense soon unraveled into a story of a calculated plot between a wife and her new lover to eliminate her husband.
The initial call to 911 was made by Danielle Parks, who claimed she had shot her husband after he chased her. However, as state police delved into the investigation, inconsistencies in her story began to emerge. The physical evidence at the scene did not align with her account of the events. It wasn't long before her story changed, and another individual was placed at the scene of the crime: her 48-year-old boyfriend, Bryan S. Michaelis. The investigation revealed that the day before the fatal shooting, Danielle Parks had paid Michaelis's back child support, securing his release from jail. That same day, she purchased the. 22 caliber handgun that would be used to end her husband's life.
The narrative of self-defense crumbled as police uncovered a conspiracy between Danielle Parks and Bryan Michaelis. Evidence suggested a planned 'execution' rather than a spontaneous act of defense. Surveillance footage from a nearby location captured their activities, while cameras at the scene of the shooting had been conveniently taken down before police arrived. In separate trials, juries found both of them guilty of first-degree murder.
