In the late hours of a Friday night in Reserve, Louisiana, the life of Henry Jamal Malancon Jr., a 26-year-old male, was tragically cut short. On April 14, 2023, what should have been an ordinary evening turned into a scene of violence at a convenience store located in the 3900 block of West Airline Highway. Gunshots shattered the midnight air, and when the chaos subsided, Malancon was found in the parking lot with fatal gunshot wounds.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to find two
other victims in a parking lot behind the store. A 24-year-old male from Reserve had been shot in the leg, and a 25-year-old female from St. Rose had a graze wound to her head. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The female victim was treated and released, while the male victim was listed in critical condition.
Shortly after the shooting, a 26-year-old man from Garyville, Trajuan Dixon, turned himself in to authorities. He confessed to his involvement in the shooting and was subsequently arrested. Dixon was charged with manslaughter and two counts of aggravated second-degree battery. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public as the investigation continued.
Henry Jamal Malancon Jr. was a resident of Mt. Airy and an employee at LaPlace Glass. He was a father to four children. His death left a void in the lives of his family, including his parents and siblings. The community was left to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young man.
