On a late spring evening in Reserve, Louisiana, the life of 20-year-old Kyree R. Jones, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On May 29, 2019, Jones was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting that also left three other young men injured. The group was standing outside a residence in the 300 block of Homewood Place when a vehicle approached, and its occupants opened fire on the crowd.
The violent outburst sent shockwaves through the St. John the Baptist Parish community.
While two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old man survived their injuries, Kyree Jones succumbed to the gunshot wounds. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the deadly shooting, working to identify those responsible for the brazen act of violence that unfolded on a residential street.
Months of investigative work led to a breakthrough in the case. In January 2020, authorities announced the arrests of two suspects: Carlshane Jarmar Dennis, 31, and Darrius Tramaine Williams, 26, both from Reserve. The two men were taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Kyree Jones and three counts of attempted second-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the other victims. At the time of their arrest, it was noted that Dennis was a convicted felon with a history of prior arrests.
