In the early evening of October 9, 2024, the Fern Rock neighborhood of Philadelphia was shattered by gunfire. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 5:33 p.m. on the 5700 block of North Camac Street, police officers discovered 22-year-old Naseem James, a Black male, lying in the street. He had been shot multiple times throughout his body, with wounds to his head and torso.
The officers quickly transported him to Jefferson-Einstein Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The scene of the shooting suggested a violent and targeted attack. Investigators found more than 30 spent shell casings from both 9mm and. 40 caliber firearms, yet no weapons were recovered at the location. This barrage of gunfire indicated the intensity of the assault that claimed James's life. A resident of North Marshall Street, his death left the community searching for answers.
As of now, the case remains an open and active investigation. The Philadelphia Police Department has not identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and have offered a $20,000 reward for details that lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Naseem James.
