In the early morning hours of January 21, 2024, a burst of gunfire on White Plains Road in the Wakefield section of the Bronx resulted in the death of 23-year-old Dashawn Hibbert. The male victim, a resident of Calhoun Avenue, was discovered by police responding to a 911 call at approximately 6:08 a.m. Hibbert had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the torso and was transported by emergency services to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
Three other men were also
wounded in the mass shooting incident. Initially, officers at the scene found a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg and a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the torso. Both of these men were taken to Jacobi Hospital and were listed in stable condition. A fourth victim, a 52-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg, was discovered later and also transported to the same hospital in stable condition.
As of the reports following the incident, authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The New York Police Department's investigation into the quadruple shooting is ongoing, and the motive behind the violence remains unknown. Law enforcement has not released a description of any potential suspects involved in the attack that ended Dashawn Hibbert's life.
