In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, the life of Keino Campbell, a 27-year-old male U.S. Navy veteran, was tragically cut short in what police believe was an act of road rage in the Bronx. Campbell was discovered unconscious and unresponsive inside his 2012 gray Infiniti at the intersection of Givan and Palmer avenues just after 2 a.m. He had sustained three gunshot wounds to his chest.
Emergency services rushed him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Family members reported that Campbell, who had served in the Navy for four years, was on his way to his sister's house after attending a car show. The events that led to his death began as a confrontation with another driver. According to his family, Campbell was involved in a minor car accident and had intended to handle the matter through insurance. However, the situation escalated dramatically. It is believed the other driver pursued him, and after the demand for money was not met, shot him. After being shot, Campbell attempted to drive away but lost consciousness and crashed his vehicle a few blocks from where the shooting occurred.
The New York City Police Department investigated the homicide and, on Monday, June 16, arrested 20-year-old Michael Aracena in connection with the fatal shooting. Aracena was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Campbell’s family, while grieving the loss of a man they described as calm, kind, and ambitious, expressed their devastation. He had plans to return to school to study engineering with the dream of one day starting his own business to provide for his family. He was remembered by his loved ones as a deeply loved individual with a bright future, whose life was filled with purpose and love for his family and country.
