In the early hours of a February morning, the life of 29-year-old Jesse Christie was tragically cut short on a street in the Bronx. On February 9, 2020, at approximately 2:27 a.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot outside a residence on East 137th Street near Willis Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Christie with a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation into the shooting pointed to a dispute over drugs as the motive. Less than a month after Christie's death, a suspect voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. On March 7, 2020, 26-year-old Joshua Slade turned himself in at the 40th Precinct stationhouse. Slade was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and assault in connection with the fatal shooting of Jesse Christie.
