In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 25, 2023, a burst of violence at the intersection of East 179th Street and Mapes Avenue in the Bronx claimed the life of 34-year-old Darnell Johnson. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 3:07 a.m., police discovered Johnson with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
