On a spring evening in the Bronx, the life of 32-year-old Trent Jackson was cut short by a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The incident, which occurred on April 29, 2024, was the tragic culmination of a dispute that had escalated throughout the day. Earlier, around 5:45 p.m., two groups of men were involved in brawls near the corner of Dewey and Swinton Avenues, just a short distance from Jackson's home in the Throggs Neck Houses.
After the initial altercations, the groups dispersed,
but the conflict was far from over. About an hour later, the men reconvened, and the simmering tensions erupted into a shootout. It was during this exchange of gunfire, at approximately 6:50 p.m. outside a New York City Housing Authority building at 2791 Dewey Avenue, that Trent Jackson was struck. Police from the 45th Precinct and PSA #8 responded to a 911 call and found Jackson with a severe head wound. Emergency services rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a chaotic scene, with police recovering fifteen shell casings of various calibers. Surveillance footage captured a white SUV and a dark-colored Jeep fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. A significant lead in the case came when the white SUV was discovered in the nearby Locust Point neighborhood, with blood-stained clothing found close by. Despite these findings, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. Authorities have noted that Jackson had a history of arrests, including gun-related charges in 2017 and 2018. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
