On the evening of April 12, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the relative quiet at the corner of East 180th Street and Mohegan Avenue in the Crotona neighborhood of the Bronx. When officers from the 48th Precinct arrived around 7:43 p.m., they found a chaotic scene with three men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 22-year-old Wayne Goodwin, a resident of East 180th Street, was grievously injured.
He had been shot multiple times, with wounds to his chest, groin, and three times in the back.
Emergency medical services rushed Goodwin to St. Barnabas Hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Two other men, aged 47 and 21, were also struck by the gunfire, each sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. They were transported to the same hospital and were listed in stable condition.
Goodwin's death was the first in a string of separate and deadly shootings that plagued the Bronx that night, resulting in a total of three fatalities and five injuries. In the aftermath of the shooting that claimed Goodwin's life, homicide detectives began an investigation. Sources familiar with the case indicated that a person of interest was questioned by authorities. However, no charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Wayne Goodwin. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for those responsible for the violence that cut his life short.
