In the summer of 2021, a dispute between two men in the Bronx escalated into deadly violence, leaving one man dead and the other facing serious criminal charges. The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at approximately 1:37 p.m., resulted in the death of 32-year-old John Vallejo. The altercation took place inside 1318 Randall Avenue in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx.
An investigation into the matter revealed that Vallejo was involved in a heated argument with
18-year-old Angel Medina. During the course of the dispute, Medina allegedly drew a firearm and shot Vallejo multiple times, striking him in the torso. In a turn of events, Vallejo was also armed and managed to return fire, hitting Medina in the arm and torso.
Both men were subsequently transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln for treatment of their injuries. Despite medical efforts, John Vallejo was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Angel Medina was taken into custody by the New York City Police Department.
Following the incident, Angel Medina, of 1075 Longfellow Avenue in the Bronx, was arrested and charged in connection with Vallejo's death. The charges filed against him included manslaughter, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon, specifically a loaded firearm. The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing.
