Detective Thomas E. Hill of the New York City Police Department was tragically killed on July 28, 1930, in the Bronx, New York. Detective Hill was on duty, assigned to a bridge to intercept suspicious vehicles following a robbery. As he and his fellow officers were stationed, a car carrying six men, who had just committed the robbery, sped onto the bridge. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the officers, resulting in Detective Hill being struck by gunfire and fatally wounded.
