In the early morning hours of the Fourth of July, 2021, tragedy struck in the Bronx when 22-year-old Mamadou Bah was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 4:10 AM in front of 866 E. 172nd Street in the Crotona Park neighborhood. Responding to a 911 call, police discovered Bah with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and arm. A second victim, a 27-year-old male, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.
Both men were transported to Saint Barnabas
Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Mamadou Bah, a resident of Morrisania and a college student, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim was reported to be in stable condition. Friends and family described Bah as a humble individual and expressed their profound grief while calling for justice.
Following an investigation by the New York Police Department, a suspect was identified and apprehended. On August 18, 2021, Darren Quinn, a 34-year-old resident of the Bronx, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Quinn was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. At the time of his arrest, it was reported that he had a criminal record that included prior arrests for burglary and drug possession. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in the community.
