In the Bronx, not far from Yankee Stadium, 26-year-old Earl Terrell Tisdale was shot and killed in the afternoon hours of July 16, 2015. The shooting happened at roughly 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of East 157th Street and Gerard Avenue. Tisdale, known to his friends as 'Rell,' suffered a gunshot wound to the torso.
Witnesses at a nearby salon reported hearing three gunshots and then seeing Tisdale on the ground, bleeding from his chest.
Friends who were with him just before the shooting said it happened incredibly fast. One moment they were all together, and the next, after one friend had stepped away to a bodega, the sound of a 'pop' like a firecracker rang out, and Tisdale fell to the ground. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but he did not survive. Those who knew Tisdale remembered him as a friendly and respectful person who had been going through a difficult time since the recent passing of his mother.
In the wake of the shooting, police began an investigation into the homicide. Authorities released photos to the public of a white Chevy Camaro that was reportedly seen driving away from the area at the time of the murder. Law enforcement expressed a desire to question the driver of the vehicle, as well as any other occupants who may have been inside. Following the incident, friends and neighbors created a makeshift shrine in his memory near the location where he was killed.
