Ricardo Bygrave, a 22-year-old man, was shot and killed on the night of April 2, 2026, in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx. The shooting unfolded outside a deli on Bronxwood Avenue near East 217th Street, only steps from where he lived. Police and emergency responders arrived shortly before 9:30 p.m. and found Bygrave suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
He was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, but he did not survive.
The moments before the shooting appear to have started as a confrontation outside the deli. Surveillance video described by investigators showed the alleged gunman arriving at the business, going inside, then coming back out a short time later. Outside, he and Bygrave began arguing. What caused the dispute has not been made clear, and authorities have not said whether the two men knew each other before that night. The argument escalated quickly. Investigators said the gunman backed away, pulled out a firearm, and shot Bygrave in the head.
In the immediate aftermath, police searched for the shooter while the Williamsbridge neighborhood was left shaken by the killing. Early reports said no arrests had been made and described investigators looking for a man dressed in dark clothing. The shooting was one of two deadly Bronx incidents that happened within about an hour that night, adding to the sense of alarm in the borough, though the other case involved a different victim and suspect.
An arrest was later made in Bygrave’s killing. Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jasriri Emanuel, who authorities said lived only blocks from both Bygrave and the deli where the shooting happened. Emanuel was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting. He also faced additional charges including manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
As of the reports available, police had not publicly explained what sparked the confrontation between Emanuel and Bygrave. The case was no longer being described as an unidentified-suspect investigation after Emanuel’s arrest, but the deeper motive remained unclear. What is known is that a brief encounter outside a neighborhood deli turned deadly within moments, leaving Bygrave fatally wounded on a Bronx street and leading prosecutors to pursue serious homicide and weapons charges against the accused shooter.
