On October 20, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., New York State Police responded to a reported shooting on Hicks Road in the town of Warren, Herkimer County. Upon arrival, troopers detained 23-year-old Nikolai S. Tazin of New City, New York. Witnesses indicated that Tazin used a shotgun to shoot his uncle, 50-year-old Andrey M. Tarasenko of Congers, New York, as Tarasenko attempted to flee in his vehicle. Tarasenko was found deceased inside his vehicle at the scene.
