In the early morning hours of July 3, 2022, a dispute in front of a food cart at the corner of Monroe Avenue and Goodman Street in Rochester, New York, ended in the tragic death of 35-year-old DeAnthony Rodgers. The altercation escalated to gunfire, and Rodgers sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Another man in his 30s was also shot during the incident, suffering a non-life-threatening wound to his lower body.
The Rochester Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, which was one of two that occurred in the city within a 12-hour period. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect in Rodgers' death. On July 12, 2022, authorities arrested 30-year-old Treyshon Pittman. Pittman had also been injured during the altercation, having been shot by another individual. He was taken into custody after being released from the hospital.
Following his arrest, Treyshon Pittman was charged with second-degree murder and a gun crime in connection with the death of DeAnthony Rodgers. He was scheduled to be arraigned the following morning to face the charges brought against him. The investigation continued as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
