The grim discovery prompted the activation of the Ripley County Major Case Squad to investigate what was being treated as a double homicide.
Kathryn, born on
October 4, 1979, was remembered as a nurturing soul, often taking on a motherly role for many in her neighborhood. She found immense joy in her family, especially her granddaughter, and was known for her passion for helping others. She and Eric had been married since June 15, 2002, and were celebrated for their open hearts and readiness to lend a hand to anyone in need. The investigation into their deaths moved swiftly. A day after the couple was found, on January 14, 2024, authorities arrested 19-year-old Dillon Andrew Leroux of Doniphan. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Ripley County Sheriff's Office, the Doniphan Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and other local agencies.
Leroux was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon.
