On November 3, 2013, a tragic incident occurred at the Salt River Gun Range near New London, Missouri, involving 25-year-old Colombian national Andrea Jinneth Corredor-Rivera. She was visiting family in the area and had decided to spend time at the shooting range situated in Ralls County. The outing, intended for recreation, turned deadly due to a mishap with a powerful firearm.
Corredor-Rivera was handling a. 500-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, a weapon known for its immense power and significant recoil. As she fired the weapon, the force of the recoil proved too strong for her to control. The firearm spun backward in her hand, discharging a second round involuntarily. This second shot struck her in the head, inflicting a fatal wound.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Corredor-Rivera had succumbed to her injuries immediately. The Ralls County Sheriff’s Department conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities determined that the shooting was purely accidental, resulting from the loss of control over the high-caliber weapon. Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie confirmed there were no signs of foul play, and consequently, no suspects were sought, and no arrests were made in connection with the case.
