In the summer of 2019, a quiet street in Greenwood, Missouri, became the scene of a tragedy that cut short the life of 54-year-old Kimberly R. Alcorn. On the night of June 26th, an argument between Alcorn and her boyfriend, Dana C. Jones, escalated with fatal consequences inside her home. Witnesses reported hearing the dispute, which was followed by the sound of gunshots, forever altering the lives of those involved.
Responding to a call about a possible shooting, Jackson County
Sheriff's deputies arrived at Alcorn's residence in the 1200 block of South Harris Road. As they approached, they witnessed a car attempting to leave the property. The driver, later identified as Jones, led deputies on a brief pursuit that ended when his vehicle veered off the road. When taken into custody, Jones was found to be naked.
Back at the house, deputies made a grim discovery. Kimberly Alcorn was found in a bedroom, having suffered multiple gunshot and stab wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog was also found shot in the room. The subsequent investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office quickly focused on Jones as the primary suspect in Alcorn's death.
Dana C. Jones, then 44 years old, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action. In January 2023, Jones pleaded guilty to the charges. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder conviction, with concurrent five-year sentences for the other charges.
