On a quiet Saturday, April 18, 2026, the small community of Skidmore, Missouri, was shaken by a grim discovery that would soon unfold into a double homicide investigation. At a residence near the intersection of MO Highway 46 and Route PP, north of the town, authorities found two women deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. One of the victims was identified as Karen M. Babcock, a 58-year-old female from Skidmore. The other victim was 32-year-old Liberty A.

The Nodaway County Sheriff's Office was the first to respond to the scene and quickly requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control to lead the investigation into the double homicide. A person of interest was located at the residence and taken into custody by the Nodaway County Sheriff's office without incident, providing an early break in the case.
The individual apprehended at the scene was identified as 20-year-old Keevin J. Maupin, a resident of Skidmore. Following his arrest, investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control submitted a probable cause statement to the Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney, Tina Deiter. Based on the evidence presented, Keevin J. Maupin was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. He was subsequently booked into the Nodaway County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
