On April 18, 2026, 32-year-old Liberty A. Moore of Maryville, Missouri, was found deceased in a residence just north of Skidmore, Missouri. Another woman, 58-year-old Karen M. Babcock of Skidmore, was also discovered deceased at the scene. The Nodaway County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control to investigate what was reported as a double homicide.
Upon arrival at the residence, located near the intersection of Missouri Highway 46 and Route PP, law enforcement officials found both female victims with apparent gunshot wounds.
A person of interest, identified as 20-year-old Keevin J. Maupin of Skidmore, was taken into custody at the scene by the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office. On April 19, 2026, the Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney, Tina Deiter, charged Maupin with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. Following the charges, Maupin was held in the Nodaway County Jail without bond.
Liberty Ann Moore, who was known by the nicknames Libby, Lib, and Loo, was a mother to three children. Her family described her as someone who "lived loudly and without apology," filling every room with "light, laughter, and a joy that lingered long after she left."
