Billy Wilson Yant, the Chief of Police in Verona, Mississippi, tragically lost his life on January 6, 1989, during a traffic stop intended to serve a warrant for threatening phone calls. Chief Yant, who was 50 years old at the time, had gone to the suspect's home to meet deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, who had obtained the warrant.
