In the summer of 2023, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Verona, Mississippi. Cristian Manuel Ramos Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, was at his home on Saturday, July 8, 2023, when he was killed by gunfire. Born on February 22, 2001, in Denver, Colorado, Cristian had moved from Vardaman to Verona and was working as a mechanic at Carlock Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram of Tupelo.
The Verona Police Department's investigation into the shooting that claimed Cristian's life
revealed that he was not the intended victim. Investigators determined that the suspects had targeted a specific individual but mistakenly fired into the wrong residence on Reese Street, leading to the senseless death of an innocent man.
A multi-agency and multi-state investigation spanning from North Mississippi to Tennessee and Iowa eventually led to a breakthrough in the case. Law enforcement identified two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Christopher Williams and Jessica Harris were arrested and both faced charges of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting into a dwelling. Following his arrest, Williams was held without bond, while Harris's bond was set at $1 million. The Verona Chief of Police stated that evidence recovered during the investigation directly linked the two suspects to the crime.
