The victims were identified as 37-year-old Christine Adewunmi and her three daughters. Among the children was Samantha Marie 'Sammi' Olushola Adewunmi, a 6-year-old female of Nigerian and European descent, who was found deceased alongside her sisters, 8-year-old Lauren and 3-year-old Kate.
Investigators from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri Highway Patrol quickly determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. Evidence at the scene, including a handgun found near the mother's body, indicated that Christine Adewunmi had shot each of her three daughters once before turning the weapon on herself.
