In the early moments of April 13, 2015, the life of 35-year-old Tameeka Jovan Brown was tragically cut short in St. Louis, Missouri. Just after midnight, officers were called to the 5500 block of Greer Avenue after a witness reported hearing gunshots. There, in a grassy field, they discovered Brown, a female victim who had been shot multiple times. Despite the immediate response, her injuries to her hand, face, hip, and buttocks were too severe, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness at the time recounted hearing the gunshots and then seeing a vehicle quickly leave the area with its headlights turned off before noticing Brown in the field. Investigators also noted that she was in possession of what they believed to be marijuana. For nearly a decade, the case remained unsolved, a painful open wound for her loved ones and the community. The initial investigation yielded no arrests, leaving a void of answers and justice.
A significant breakthrough in the cold case finally came in February 2025. Homicide detectives arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Tameeka Brown's death. A critical detail in the case is that the suspect was only 16 years old at the time of the shooting. Due to his juvenile status when the crime was committed, the case has been referred to the juvenile court system. Consequently, the name of the individual charged has not been publicly released. This development, coming almost ten years after the fact, has brought a long-awaited step towards closure for a decade-old tragedy.
