On the evening of April 6, 2018, a violent tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of a shopping center in Arnold, Missouri, claiming the life of a 32-year-old female resident named Linda Cook. The incident occurred outside the Ross Dress for Less store at the Arnold Commons, a busy commercial area where Linda had agreed to meet her estranged husband, Johnny Cook, for a family dinner.
The couple had planned to take their three young children to a nearby restaurant, but the meeting quickly deteriorated into a heated argument inside their vehicle.
As the dispute escalated, Johnny Cook produced a firearm and shot Linda multiple times while she sat in the car. The attack took place in close proximity to the couple’s children, who were present at the scene and witnessed the harrowing event. Following the shooting, Johnny Cook turned the weapon on himself, sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement officers from the Arnold Police Department arrived shortly after receiving reports of gunfire to find both individuals suffering from critical injuries.
Emergency responders transported Linda Cook to a local hospital where she remained in critical condition for two days. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away on April 8, 2018. Her estranged husband was pronounced dead at the scene inside the vehicle. Because the perpetrator died by suicide immediately following the attack, there were no arrests, trials, or criminal charges filed in the case. Police concluded the investigation as a murder-suicide, noting that the children were physically unharmed and were subsequently placed in the care of family members.
