In a quiet neighborhood near Branson West, a tragedy unfolded that left a family and community in shock. The stillness of an April day was shattered on the 9th of the month in 2018, when concerned relatives were unable to reach their loved ones who had relocated to Reeds Spring, Missouri, from California about a year prior. A neighbor, asked to check on the family, peered through a window and made a grim discovery that prompted a call to the Stone County Sheriff's Office.
Inside the
home, deputies found a devastating scene. Four people had lost their lives in a violent outburst that authorities would later describe as a murder-suicide. Among the deceased was 43-year-old Cynthia Miller, a female resident of the home. She, along with two other family members, had been fatally shot. The investigation concluded that Victor D. Gibson, age 47, was the perpetrator of the killings.
The other victims were Gibson's own mother, 70-year-old Susan Gibson, and his 17-year-old son, Daniel L. Gibson. After taking the lives of his mother, son, and his girlfriend, Cynthia Miller, Victor Gibson then turned the gun on himself, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive behind the tragic event was not made public.
As the person responsible for the deaths was also deceased, there were no arrests to be made and no suspects to be sought.
