In the early afternoon hours of Sunday, June 2, 2024, the life of 29-year-old William Carl Wright, a male resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was tragically cut short. Near the intersection of East 9th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard, first responders discovered Wright unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical aid rendered by responding police officers and subsequent efforts by emergency medical services, he was pronounced deceased at the
scene. Wright had been shot in the upper back.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a suspect, 21-year-old Myloe T. Doan. Security footage from a nearby building captured a Dodge Durango lingering in the area shortly before the shooting. A man, later identified as Doan, was seen on camera taking pictures of the building before chasing Wright. Following the shooting, the Durango was observed heading toward Doan's home address. Investigators also utilized information from Doan's social media accounts to build their case.
In early November 2024, Myloe T. Doan was arrested and charged in connection with the death of William Carl Wright. The charges filed against him include second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Following the charges, Doan was held without eligibility for bond. The death of William Carl Wright marked the 63rd homicide in Kansas City for the year 2024.
