On May 17, 2022, a violent incident unfolded at a gas station located at 33rd Street and Linwood Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Andreone Hall. The young Black male was at the business that Tuesday evening when the situation escalated into gunfire. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department rushed to the intersection of Linwood and Indiana Avenue after reports of shots fired echoed through the neighborhood.
upon arrival at the scene, first responders discovered Hall unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the location, marking another homicide for the city that year.
Investigators immediately began piecing together the events that led to the shooting, relying heavily on surveillance footage from the gas station. The video evidence reportedly captured the arrival of a gold Kia containing two men, identified later as the suspects. Shortly after, Hall arrived in a white Cadillac SUV and approached a service window at the business. The footage allegedly showed one of the occupants of the Kia, identified by authorities as 19-year-old Jerpree Williams, exiting the store and pointing a firearm at Hall. As Hall attempted to flee the danger, Williams allegedly opened fire. The situation intensified when the suspect reportedly returned to the Kia to retrieve a second weapon, described as a black rifle, and continued shooting in the victim’s direction.
Law enforcement officers who were already in the vicinity due to the sound of gunfire were able to apprehend Williams and other individuals at the scene. During a subsequent search of the gold Kia, police recovered a handgun from the front passenger seat and a rifle from the rear floorboard. In contrast, examinations by the medical examiner and investigators indicated that Hall was unarmed at the time of his death.
Following the investigation, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges against Jerpree Williams. He faced counts of murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. While being interviewed by detectives, Williams initially denied any involvement in the shooting but later altered his statement to claim self-defense, alleging that he believed Hall had been involved in a prior break-in at his home. The court set a bond for Williams, initiating the legal proceedings for the case.
