The events unfolded on a Sunday afternoon when officers were dispatched to the area near Longview Road and Blue Ridge Boulevard following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 12:45 p.m., first responders discovered Cole suffering from gunshot wounds on the sidewalk.
Despite being transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, marking the city's 95th homicide of that year.
Witnesses at the scene provided a brief description of a potential suspect immediately following the gunfire. One individual reported seeing a person dressed entirely in black clothing running away from the location where Cole was found.
