In the late-night hours of March 18, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of 33-year-old Leander Wooden Jr., a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a double homicide. Responding to the sound of gunfire just after 11 p.m., police discovered Wooden and 72-year-old Jumah Mubarak lying unresponsive with gunshot wounds in the street in the 3400 block of Harrison Street.
Emergency services transported both men to a local hospital, but their injuries proved fatal.
The incident unfolded in the North Hyde Park neighborhood, leaving residents shaken and authorities searching for answers. Investigators began canvassing the area for potential witnesses and processing the scene for evidence to piece together the events that led to the fatal shootings. At the time of the incident, these were the 27th and 28th homicides of the year in Kansas City.
Despite the ongoing investigation by homicide detectives, no suspect information has been released to the public, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Wooden and Mubarak.
