In the late hours of a Saturday night in Kansas City, Missouri, tragedy began to unfold for 18-year-old Makel Williams, a Black/African American male. On March 11, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the West Bottoms neighborhood, near 12th and Wyoming streets. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the young man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services transported Williams to a local hospital in critical condition.
For three days, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on March 14, 2023. His death marked the 34th homicide in Kansas City for that year.
The Kansas City Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the shooting. Detectives and crime scene personnel canvassed the area for witnesses and collected evidence in the 1500 block of West 12th Street. As of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting of Makel Williams. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. A significant reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
