On June 7, 2023, 14-year-old Derrick C. Thurman Jr. was tragically shot and killed on the front porch of his family's home in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident occurred in the early morning hours near East 83rd Street and Wayne Avenue. Family members reported that Derrick had been on the porch with two other individuals earlier, but was alone when his body was discovered around 5:00 a.m.
